A SOMERSET town is set to feature in a BBC TV show highlighting the area in a positive light.
BBC Escape to the Country will return to Somerset in a future instalment after film crews were seen at Shepton Mallet earlier this month.
The hit TV show is a long-running British television property show on BBC One. It follows prospective buyers leaving urban areas to find their dream homes in rural parts of the UK.
In each episode, a presenter takes a couple or family on a tour of three to four rural properties in a specific county or region. The properties are chosen to match the buyers' budgets and lifestyle wishlists.
Currently in its 27th season, the show has been all around to places like Devon and Cornwall, Suffolk, East Riding of Yorkshire, South West Wales and more.
Speaking joyfully about the BBC exposure, a spokesperson for Shepton Mallet Town Council said: "Following the huge success of Collett Park Day, we were thrilled to receive a request from a BBC producer seeking permission to film in our beautiful park for an upcoming episode of Escape to the Country.
"The filming took place this week, with its picturesque lake, historic bandstand and wide open fields, Collett Park offers a stunning backdrop and is a location we believe deserves to stand alongside Somerset's best-known filming destinations.
"We were also pleased to see Shepton Mallet Town Council tagged in a recent LinkedIn post by Mark Ford of Screen Somerset, highlighting locations that will be promoted at the Filming in England South West Industry Mixer at Bristol Beacon on 23 June.
"Featured locations include Shepton Mallet Prison, Wookey Hole Caves, Bishop's Palace and Wells Cathedral."
The town council added that its Collett Park would make the perfect filming location alongside areas around the town centre, as Shepton has "so much to offer".
The spokesperson added: "We would love to see Collett Park added to that list in the future.
"Alongside our historic town centre, unique alleyways, heritage buildings and beautiful public spaces, Shepton Mallet has so much to offer film and television productions.
"Thank you to the BBC Somerset team for choosing Collett Park, and we look forward to welcoming more productions to Shepton Mallet."
