A new 24-hour gym has opened on a Somerset trading estate as local owners aim to plug what they say was a gap in the town's fitness provision.

Phoenix Fitness, based at Unit 11, Northern Way, Cropmead, Crewkerne, opened its doors last weekend and offers round-the-clock access via a secure key-app system.

The gym is owned and run by husband-and-wife team Simon and Gemma Lunn, who have operated local gyms in Somerset for more than 20 years.

Phoenix Fitness was originally established in Chard in 2001 and more recently moved to operate the gym at Cricket St Thomas Golf Club, which will continue to run alongside the new, seperate Crewkerne site.

Inside, the unit has been fitted out with free weights, resistance machines and cardio equipment, with the owners also highlighting dedicated provision for Hyrox training.

Gemma says both her and her husband have longstanding ties to the town, having grown up locally.

She explained: "Bringing a gym to Crewkerne has been something they we’ve considered for many years, as we felt it was a facility the town was missing.

"The response from local residents has been extremely positive, with many people commenting that a gym like this is exactly what Crewkerne needed."

The opening weekend was described as "very busy", with a number of new members signing up and inductions starting straight away for those keen to begin training.

Gemma said: "We’re excited to be bringing Phoenix Fitness to Crewkerne and look forward to supporting the health and fitness of the local community for years to come."

The owners say people are welcome to visit the gym with no obligation to join, and that a range of membership options is available to suit different lifestyles.
