A BANNED driver who was more than three times the drug drive limit when he was stopped by the police has been given a further three-year disqualification.
Officers were on patrol in Yeovil when a vehicle was flagged up as having no insurance or MoT.
When they spoke to the driver Dale James Campbell they could smell cannabis and he failed a drugs test and was arrested.
Campbell, 30, of Bearley Lane, Tintinhull, pleaded guilty to drug driving, disqualified driving and driving without insurance or an MoT on December 19 last year when he appeared before Somerset Magistrates at Yeovil.
Prosecutor Giles Tippett said that officers were on duty when they detected a VW vehicle was being driven without insurance or an MoT.
“They followed the car into Tesco and spoke with Campbell who admitted he had no insurance so they seized the vehicle and also discovered he was a disqualified driver,” he said.
“They could also smell cannabis on the defendant and a subsequent roadside drugs swipe showed positive and a blood test later revealed a reading of 6.1 mlg of THC when the limit was 2.”
Defending himself, Campbell told the court there was no excuse for what he did saying he had just moved to the area and was living in his car.
“I had to get a job and some money so was living in my car, and now I have got myself into this situation,” he said.
The magistrates fined him £800 with a £320 court surcharge and £85 costs and disqualified him from driving for 36 months.
