Two patrol vehicles at Brean Sands swept away during rescue

The incident took place on Wednesday, August 26, at Brean Sands Holiday Park in Burnham-on-Sea while a beach safety warden was rescuing a child trapped in mud during an incoming tide.

A spokesperson for Somerset Council said: "This is an unfortunate incident which happened while our Beach Safety Warden was rescuing a child who was trapped in the mud on an incoming tide.

"Crucially, they got the child to safety, but unfortunately his vehicle became stuck, and a further vehicle which went out to assist also became stuck.

"Both were caught by the tide.

"Thankfully, nobody was injured."

The vehicles became stranded in the sand before being swept away by the tide.

Darren Aston, a 55-year-old resident of South Road, who witnessed the incident, said: "Driving up the beach, one got stuck and called for backup.

"The other one came to pull it out and got stuck as well."

The situation remains ongoing, with Mr Aston reporting that the vehicles are now almost completely submerged.

Somerset Council has confirmed that the vehicles will be recovered as soon as possible.
