M5 lorry incident leads to traffic being stopped in Somerset

National Highways has provided an update on the collision which initially brought traffic to a halt on Monday, September 7.

This led to huge delays on the southbound carriageway between Junction 20 (Clevedon) and Junction 21 (Weston-super-Mare).

A 26-tonne lorry "rolled over", also adding to the exit ramp being shut at Junction 21 (Weston-super-Mare) and delays of over 87 minutes.

In an update shared via social media, a spokesperson for National Highways said: "M5 southbound in Somerset J21 exit slip road near Weston-super-Mare.

"The road is closed following a collision involving an overturned lorry. Clean up works are ongoing. A sweeper is clearing debris.

"Current delays of 60 minutes on the approach, with six miles of congestion."

"Severe delays" remain on the M5 in Somerset.
