MORE than £1 million is being invested in major gas network upgrades near Taunton and Minehead in Somerset.
Wales & West Utilities is carrying out the work in the Watchet and Williton areas of Somerset to support long-term energy needs and future green gas usage.
A drop-in session will be held at the Brendon Room, Williton Pavillion Hall, Robert Street, on September 21, from 9.30am to 5pm.
Roxanne Whittaker, who is managing the project, said: "We’d like to see members of the local community at our drop-in event so that we can share plans for the work.
"We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
"While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community.
"Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
"This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future."
Attendees will have the opportunity to review plans and speak directly with the project team.
The upgrade forms part of an over £1.2 million investment over the next year to modernise the gas network in and around the Watchet and Williton areas.
More than six kilometres of gas pipes will be upgraded, securing a reliable supply for approximately 700 customers.

Wales & West Utilities is the gas emergency and pipeline service, delivering energy to over 7.5 million people across Wales and the South West of England through a network of more than 35,000 kilometres of underground pipes.
