A much-loved Minehead business that spent a decade trading from one of the town's most historic buildings is opening the doors to its new home this week.
The Toybox will officially open its new store at Cavendish House, 21 The Parade, on Saturday, September 12. The premises were formerly occupied by Holland & Barrett, which closed in April this year.
The independent retailer has built a loyal following across West Somerset since owner Mark Granger opened the shop in Minehead's Market House in 2016.
The move marks the end of an era for the business, which was one of the few retailers operating from the Grade II-listed Market House.
Designed by architect W.J. Tamlyn, the building dates back to 1902 and originally served as a covered market and town council chambers. Over the years, The Toybox became a firm favourite with local families and visitors alike, earning a reputation for its range of traditional toys, games, gifts and friendly customer service.
The shop's popularity has even extended beyond West Somerset. Mark previously revealed that Clarkson's Farm star Gerald Cooper, who frequently spends time in Minehead, has been a regular customer for several years.
Founded by Mark Granger and Roz Smith in 2013, The Toybox has spent more than 10 years trading from the Market House site and recently held a relocation sale as preparations for the move gathered pace.
Announcing the move on social media earlier this year, Mark said: "We are moving.
"After 10 years of great trading at the market house, the Toybox is off to new premises.
"As a result, we have a relocation sale, in order to clear existing shelf stock before we move."
The new Cavendish House premises will provide a larger and improved shopping experience while continuing to offer the store's familiar mix of toys, games, gifts, souvenirs, vinyl records and more.
As part of the relocation, Mark and Roz said they had been pleased to work with a range of local tradespeople and businesses.
They also thanked customers for their support over the years and said they were looking forward to welcoming shoppers to the new store when it opens on Saturday, September 12.
After months of speculation about where the popular retailer would relocate, The Toybox's new chapter is now set to begin in the heart of Minehead town centre.
