Casualty removed from second-storey window in Taunton

Fire crews from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to East Street in Taunton at 11.06am to help South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.

Firefighters from Taunton Fire Station helped the ambulance teams by extricating the casualty through a second-storey window using an aerial ladder platform.

Avon and Somerset Police were also called to the scene of the incident at 11.29am by the fire service to assist them with the road closure at East Reach near Primark. 

The individual was handed over to ambulance crews.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called at 11.29am by the fire service to assist them with a road closure on East Reach."

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 11.06am we were called to East Street, Taunton to assist the ambulance service with a casualty.

"One appliance and an aerial ladder platform from Taunton station attended.

"Crews used the aerial ladder platform to extricate one person through a second-storey window and hand them over to a waiting ambulance."

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust has also been contacted for further comment.
