Oliver Randall – Writers in Whites
A cricket-themed literary discussion is set to take place in Taunton this week.
Writer, historian, and cartoonist Oliver Randall will present his in-depth research on cricket's surprising influence on London's literary scene between the 1880s and 1960s.
The event is scheduled for Thursday, September 24, at Brendon Books CIC.
His book, Writers in Whites, uncovers the impact cricket had on notable authors like P.G. Wodehouse, J.M. Barrie, and Arthur Conan Doyle.
Mr Randall, who completed his doctoral thesis, Cricket, Literary Culture and Englishness, 1887-1968, earlier this year, has also contributed to numerous publications, including the Times Literary Supplement.

Square One
A classic rock band will perform rock anthems in Taunton this week.
Square One will play at the Creative Innovation Centre on Friday, September 25.
The five-piece covers hits from artists including Gary Moore, Bryan Adams, Tom Petty, Genesis, and Robert Palmer.
Vocalist Tom Brain fronts the group, with Adrian on keyboards, Will on bass, Andy on guitar, and Ron on drums.
Brain and Adrian are based in Devon, while Will, Andy, and Ron hail from Somerset.
Doors open at 7.30pm, with the performance starting at 8.15pm.

Andy Ford: Alright My Luvver?!
Popular comedy star Andy Ford is coming to Taunton this weekend.
He is bringing his show, Alright My Luvver?!, to the Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre on Saturday, September 26, at 7.30pm.
The show is described as a "hilariously daft yet clever production" and will be one of several shows Mr Ford is doing across the South West.
Tickets are £19.50 for adults, £16.50 per child, and £66 for a family ticket for four.

A poet will present her latest book at The Brewhouse this weekend.
Pam Ayres will be discussing her work Doggedly Onward – A Life In Poems, which encompasses her poetic contributions from 1970 to the 2020s.
