THE family of a teenager who died after a collision near Weston-super-Mare have paid tribute to their “handsome, protective and loving son” after his killer was jailed.
Alfie Gray was 18 years old when Kasper Stankiewicz, also 18 at the time, collided with him on the A370 on September 10, 2024, when trying to overtake another vehicle.
During Stankiewicz’s sentencing, Bristol Crown Court heard how on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, Alfie Gray had been riding his motorbike home from work along the A370 towards Weston-super-Mare.
Stankiewicz had been travelling in the opposite direction when another vehicle pulled out in front of him near Puxton Park.
He overtook the driver, going onto the opposite side of the road, and collided with Alfie Gray who died as a result of his injuries following the collision.
On September 22, Stankiewicz was sentenced to two years’ detention in a youth offender institution and disqualified from driving for a period of six years.
He was also asked to pay a victim surcharge of £187.
Today, the family have issued a tribute statement where they said: “Our handsome son, Alfie Gray, was 18 years old, full of ideas for his future and wanted to live his life to the fullest, but his life was cruelly ripped away whilst riding his motorbike.
“We are extremely proud of him.
“He was a protective and loving brother to his younger siblings.
“He was loyal and devoted to his friends and would always offer a supportive shoulder to cry on.

“Motorbikes were the making of him.
“Alfie became a member of the local biking community and has been described as a ‘gentle giant’ and is extremely missed by all the people he would have called his second family.
“Alfie’s future, his hopes and dreams were taken due to someone choosing to drive dangerously.
“We are heartbroken, and no sentence will ever ease the pain of never seeing our son grow and develop into the wonderful man we know he would have become.
“Alfie will always be missed; he will never be forgotten; he will always be loved.”
Jennifer Gray, Alfie's mother, added: "Kasper made a choice, an illegal choice, a dangerous choice.
"Kasper may have been served a sentence today, but it is nothing in comparison to the life sentence that we as a family have been served.
"He will live his life after prison; he will still have family that can see him, speak to him, hug him.
"We will never be able to do that again with our boy.
"Kasper Stankiewicz is not a victim; Alfie Gray is."
Officer in the case, Designated Investigation Officer Zoe Wilkinson, said: “This was an incredibly tragic incident which resulted in the death of Alfie Gray, who was a much-loved son, grandson, brother and friend. No sentence imposed by the courts can truly reflect the devastating loss felt by those who knew and loved him.
“To lose a child at the very beginning of their adult life is not something which can be put into words, and Alfie’s family have been trying to come to terms with the unimaginable loss of such a brilliant young man with his whole life ahead of him.
“Alfie’s family and friends came together to support one another and showed tremendous strength throughout what was, understandably, an incredibly emotional day.”
