THE body of a man was recovered following police searches for a missing 18-year-old last seen in Portishead, Somerset.

Avon and Somerset Police have said that earlier today (September 27) the body of a man was recovered from the South Wales Coast.

According to officers, over the course of recent days, they have been appealing for information about the whereabouts of missing 18-year-old George.

They said: “We can confirm a body was found earlier today.

“We were informed this morning that a body had been recovered from water at a coastal location near Newport.”

The spokesman said that the items of clothing worn by the man matched those George had last been seen wearing in Portishead on Thursday, September 17.

They said: “As a matter of routine, a formal identification process will need to be undertaken; however, we have informed George’s family of this latest development and are continuing to provide them with support through a specially-trained officer.”

Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious and will be a matter for the coroner going forward.

Officers added that while George’s family have been touched by all the offers of support they have received recently, they are requesting that their privacy is respected at this time.

Police said: “Finally, we would like to thank everyone who called in with information and shared our appeals, as well as Gwent Police and the RNLI for their involvement today.”
