HUNDREDS of runners flocked to Taunton to take part in the annual 10k race run by the Taunton Carnival Committee, which organisers said was a huge success this year.
On September 27, runners and supporters alike took to Blackbrook Leisure Centre, where just under 500 runners lined up at the starting line ready to take on the route.
The participants were encouraged to line up at the start on the road immediately outside the centre at 10.50am, with the Mayor of Taunton, Cllr Bev Fernandes, attending the event as the guest of honour.
The route then proceeded along Blackbrook Way, Chestnut Drive, Upper Holway Road, Holway Avenue, South Road, Stoke Road, through Stoke St Mary, towards Henlade, Haydon Lane, Chestnut Drive, Blackbrook Way and ending at the finish line at the centre.
The results have been announced, and in the male category, Christian Hewitt placed first with a finish time of 31 minutes and 56 seconds, Thomas Vestey placed second with a time of 33 minutes and 12 seconds, and Wayne Loveridge placed third with a time of 33 minutes and 18 seconds.
In the female category, Jenny Coxon placed first with a finish time of 39 minutes and 44 seconds, Kate Dobson placed second with a finish time of 40 minutes, and Tanya Batten placed third with a finish time of 42 minutes and 14 seconds.

Race director John Lewis said: “The race went really well for us, both out on the course and at race HQ at Blackbrook.
"Just under 500 runners took part.
"We were a bit concerned about the weather forecast, but the rain held off until after everyone had finished.
"Three quarters of the field are local runners, and it’s great to see such a high level of support.
"We’d like to thank all the volunteers who made it such a great day. They don’t get to hear all the lovely comments and thanks from runners at the finish.”
Taunton Carnival Committee chairman Callum Perrin said: “Another successful event.
"We know we create delays and congestion for traffic in a couple of places, so it’s important to thank everyone for their patience on a Sunday morning.
"The 10k is one of the main fundraisers for the Carnival in three weeks’ time.”
