PROPOSALS for a new mural on a building in Taunton have been put forward, with feedback wanted.

Taunton Town Council is hoping to shape a little corner of the town, with residents being asked to share their views on plans for artwork at the junction of Bridge Street and Wood Street.

The town council has launched a public consultation on future improvements to an empty space in the town centre, presenting a series of concept designs for residents to consider.

People are being asked whether they would prefer a mural or an advertising board at the site, with both options featuring new landscaping and themes inspired by Taunton's heritage.

The council said the currently unused space has the potential to become something that "adds colour, character and a little more life" to the town centre.

Several artist impressions have been produced to showcase what the area could look like, although the council has stressed that these are only initial sketches and not the final designs that would appear on the wall if chosen. This includes a depiction of a peacock, flood, tram and advertising.

In a statement, Taunton Town Council said: "The empty space at the junction of Bridge Street and Wood Street has the potential to become something that adds colour, character and a little more life to our town centre.

"Would you prefer a mural or an advertising board? Both options would include new landscaping, with themes inspired by Taunton's heritage."

Residents can view the proposed designs in more detail on the council's website and complete a questionnaire outlining their preferred option.

The council added that while all images are artist impressions and the final space may look slightly different, the public will be able to choose the theme that they would most like to see brought to life.

Feedback gathered through the consultation will help inform the next stage of the project.

People have until Sunday, November 15, 2026, to submit their views.
