Campfire storytelling, bushcraft, and marshmallow toasting are just some of the events taking place across Somerset this autumn.

Somerset Council’s Green Estates Team has launched a seasonal programme across its country parks, nature reserves, and woodlands.

The activities are designed to help people connect with nature, learn new skills, and enjoy the outdoors.

Edd Chilcott, community ranger at Somerset Council, said: "Autumn is one of the most rewarding times of year to get outdoors.

"Whether you're toasting marshmallows around a fire, learning about fungi, improving your photography skills, or enjoying a family adventure in nature, there's something for everyone.

"Our events are designed to help people connect with Somerset's amazing green spaces and create lasting memories together."

Events are taking place at Ham Hill Country Park, Chard Reservoir, Wilstock & Stockmoor Country Park near Bridgwater, and Netherclay Community Woodland in Taunton.

Highlights include campfire storytelling, photography walks, outdoor crafts, wildlife activities, and forest school sessions for young children.

One of the events at Ham Hill Country Park is Tales of Bravery and Triumph, a storytelling afternoon running from 4pm to 5.30pm on Wednesday, October 28.

The event, held in partnership with Yeovil's Tea and Poetry Group, invites attendees to share their own stories or listen to others while enjoying hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows.

At Chard Reservoir, adults can join a guided photography walk on Friday, October 16, from 12.30pm to 3pm.

Led by artist Carolyn Lefley, the session offers practical photography tips and the chance to capture the reserve’s seasonal beauty.

Families can also look forward to Autumnfest at Chard Reservoir on Tuesday, October 27, from 10am to 1pm.

The free event includes apple pressing, raft racing, traditional games, wildlife activities, and crafts.

Wilstock & Stockmoor Country Park will host its own Apple Day on Sunday, October 18, from 1pm to 4pm.

The event features marshmallow toasting, autumn crafts, bug hotel building, and preparations for a new tree nursery.

The full list of events can be found at discoverwildsomerset.digitickets.co.uk/tickets, where tickets can also be booked.

Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts, Somerset Council’s lead member for communities, environment, and climate change, said: "Our country parks, nature reserves and community woodlands are some of Somerset's greatest assets, and these events provide a wonderful opportunity for residents and visitors to enjoy them.

"Whether you're looking to learn a new skill, spend quality time with family or simply enjoy the beauty of nature in autumn, there's an event for you."

Early booking is recommended for ticketed events, as places are limited.
