Families in Somerset are being invited to take part in new library adventures.

Somerset Libraries is offering a programme of free activities at Wellington, Chard, and Priorswood libraries, designed to engage families in creative and active learning in a welcoming environment.

Library Adventures includes craft sessions, author visits, inclusive family activities, and monthly Active Saturdays led by leisure centre staff.

Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts, lead member for communities, environment and climate change, said: "Library Adventures is all about bringing families together to try something new in a friendly setting.

"With active games, stories, crafts and activities to enjoy beyond the library, there is something for everyone.

"We hope families in Chard, Priorswood and Wellington will come along and join the adventure."

No booking or library membership is required, and families can join in by arriving at the start of each session.

Children can also take part in The Big Adventure, a year-round challenge with activities at home, in libraries and while out and about.

Those who complete the challenge will receive a prize.

Active Saturdays are aimed at families with children aged three and over, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

The programme is funded by Arts Council England Project Grants and Somerset Public Health, and is jointly delivered by Somerset Libraries, Somerset Public Health, Freedom Leisure and Everyone Active.

Somerset Libraries is also inviting volunteers to support the programme by helping children and families discover books, enjoy activities together, and build connections across generations.
