A MAN in his 50s has been charged after a fatal collision on a major Somerset A-road.

Jobey Jason Smith, 53, of Chilcompton in Radstock, appeared in Bristol Magistrates Court on Friday, October 9, after being charged with causing death by driving without due care and attention while over the prescribed limit for alcohol.

The charges have been brought against Smith following an investigation into a two-car collision at the junction of the A361 with the A362 on Monday 8 April 2024, in which 25-year-old Natasha Poore, of Evercreech, died.

Natasha was the sole occupant of a Volkswagen Golf when it was involved with a Mercedes AMG late that night.

Speaking at the time of the incident in 2024, a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "At around 11pm on Monday, April 8, a silver Mercedes C220 AMG was in a collision with a silver Volkswagen Golf on the A361 at its junction with the A362.

"The driver of the Golf, a woman in her twenties, tragically died at the scene. She was the only occupant of the vehicle.

"The Mercedes driver, a man in his fifties, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drink driving and drug driving."

Smith was released on unconditional bail and will next appear at Bristol Crown Court on Wednesday, November 11.
