A college in Somerset has spoken out following a powerful event raising awareness of gender-based violence.

Richard Huish College was represented by student executive member Teagan Frith and Becky Flower, vice principal for student experience, at a recent Inner Wheel supper held at Taunton Racecourse on Tuesday, October 20.

The event brought together representatives from women’s groups across the area in support of the United Nations’ UNITE to End Violence Against Women and Girls campaign and Orange the World, both of which promote global action to end violence against women.

Guests dressed in orange for the evening and heard from Joanne Wallace-Beecham, Somerset Domestic Abuse Service coordinator, about the impact of domestic abuse and the importance of raising awareness.

Ms Flower said: "We were grateful to Inner Wheel for the opportunity to attend such an important event.

"It was inspiring to hear from organisations and individuals working to raise awareness and support those affected by violence and abuse.

"Events like this encourage meaningful conversations and demonstrate the positive impact communities can have when they come together behind a shared cause."
