A YOUTH pilgrimage is being held to celebrate a landmark anniversary of the Diocese of Exeter.

A group of young adults from across Devon is celebrating the 1,100th anniversary of the diocese by recreating the journey of Eadwulf, the area’s founding Bishop.

Accompanied by the current Bishop of Plymouth, John Ford, the group will set off on the four-day pilgrimage from Sherbourne Abbey to Crediton this Sunday, April 5.

To help them on their journey, train operator First Great Western is making a special stop on its Exmouth to Barnstaple service to drop the pilgrims at Newton St Cyres on Thursday, April 9, where they will complete the final stretch of their journey on foot.

The journey is among a number of events planned to mark the milestone anniversary.
