A MAN who lied to police in an attempt to avoid a criminal record is back in trouble after flouting the sentence given to him by a court.

Thomas John Wiltshire, 21, of Bishop’s Hull, used the name and address of a soldier serving in Afghanistan when he was arrested for urinating in the street last June.

The serviceman discovered the deception when he read his name in the County Gazette court lists after returning home on leave.

Wiltshire was given a four-month curfew order at Taunton Crown Court in January for perverting the course of justice, but he was back before a judge this week, when he admitted he was not at home on two occasions during the curfew hours.

Wiltshire, who denied another instance of breaching the order, blamed a friend’s car for breaking down on one occasion and said he left home the other time after a row with his mother.

Judge Graham Hume Jones added another two months to the curfew order and told Wiltshire the situation was “very serious”.

“Most people go to prison for perverting the course of justice,” said the judge.

“I gave you an opportunity because you were so young – you were extremely fortunate not to go inside.”

He added: “I have never come across a situation with a curfew order that seems to have caused so much trouble and I find it very difficult to accept your explanation.”
