MORE than 50 sets of roadworks are being suspended in the South-West over the Easter weekend to help drivers make smoother journeys over the busy holiday period.

A total of 37 sets of roadworks have been completed and a further 51 were suspended before 6am this morning. Roadworks at 32 locations will remain in place for the safety of drivers and their passengers.

Derek Turner, Highways Agency director for network operations, said: “Removing roadworks is just one way we are helping road users this Easter.

"Road users can also contact our information line – 08457-504030 - for up to the minute information or tune in to DAB digital "Traffic Radio" or local radio stations is to keep up to date while they are on the move.

“Our Traffic Officers will also be on patrol and working in our control rooms 24-7, to help traffic flow smoothly and assist drivers who get into difficulty."

Roadworks and lane restrictions will not be put back before midnight on Easter Monday.
