A GROUP of four unsung heroes who make a difference to life in their communities have been honoured by Taunton Deane Mayor Cllr Tim Slattery.
They collected their Citizenship Awards at a ceremony at the Deane House, Taunton, on Friday.
The recipients were: *Barrie Palmer, who founded the County Gazette-backed Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment appeal to buy equipment for the new Beacon Centre charity unit at Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital; *Colin Parsons, who helps run Norton Fitzwarren Village Hall and is committed to many projects in the village, including several youth initiatives, as well as acting as his mother’s full-time carer.
*William Smith, who voluntarily supports the community on the Halcon estate, in Taunton, with gardening and many activities, such as coaching young footballers.
*Harriet Dingle, who won the Mayor’s Special Award for a young person, who has attained remarkable academic success despite being paralysed from the waist down following an operation.
