SCHOOL footballers in Taunton have been celebrating a £14,810 grant awarded by the Football Foundation, the UK’s largest sports charity.

The cash bonanza will allow Bishop Fox’s and Heathfield community schools to provide coaching and playing opportunities for B and C teams, disabled teams and helps establish girls football in the school.

Paul Thorogood, chief executive of the Football Foundation said: “We warmly congratulate the schools and the local FA for their hard work and dedication in securing this award.

“Sport is playing a central role in helping people to stay fit, strengthen communities and promote responsibility amongst young people.

“It is thanks to the funding from our partners the Premier League, The FA and Government and the Football Foundation exists to support this type of excellent project in the town.”

Jayson Lillington, school sports co-ordinator, said: “This award will allow the schools to offer football to a greater number of children on a regular basis therefore exposing more children to the benefits of team sport and physical activity.”
