OFFICES at Taunton’s United Kingdom Hydrographic Office were affected by a fire early this morning.
At about 2.25am, fire crews from Taunton, Bridgwater, Wiveliscombe and Yeovil were called to the scene where smoke was reported to be billowing from a window.
On arrival at the Ministry of Defence site, crews found smoke filling the second floor of the building.
This morning, a fire spokesman said: “All crews have left the scene now. The cause of the fire was an electrical fault within an air conditioning unit.
“The fire was out on arrival and crews isolated the unit and ventilated the property. There was moderate smoke damage to a few offices.”
A spokesman for the UKHO said: "There was no smoke damage and no one was injured.
"The fire has not affected the business and staff in the one office affected are working as usual."
