PEOPLE in Stoke St Mary are showing their creative flair by organising exhibitions in an old phone kiosk.

For £5, they can hire the red box – bought by the village for £1 when it was decommissioned by BT - for a week to display whatever they like.

The initiative is based on the Fourth Plinth project that ran in Trafalgar Square this year.

Organiser Liz Fothergill said people can use flair and imagination to entertain, educate, promote and amuse fellow villagers.

She added: “The residents are really behind this fund raising idea with suggestions and bookings coming in thick and fast since the announcement was made, demonstrating that the locals are definitely not short of good ideas.

“Being in the heart of this beautiful village, the kiosk will provide a unique focal and talking point for both the locals and visitors – all eagerly anticipating the next event to be displayed.”

Each week over the coming year, a photo will be taken of the exhibit, with a prize for the best display.

Cash generated from rental fees will be used by the Stoke St Mary Millennium Committee towards village projects.
