POLICE are seeking a man who pushed and punched a 16-year-old girl in an unprovoked attack in Minehead.

The girl was walking along Warren Road when her attacker, thought to be in his late teens or early 20s, rode up to her on a bike and launched his assault.

A police spokesman said the girl suffered only minor injuries but was left “distressed and shaken” by the attack.

PC Dennis Griggs, of Minehead Police, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to reassure our communities that this was an isolated incident that is being treated seriously.

“This was an unprovoked attack that left the victim uninjured but nonetheless very distressed and shaken by what happened.

“We would now like to speak to a man who was riding a dark-coloured BMX-type bike. We believe he may be able to help with enquiries.”

The man involved in the incident, which happened at about 9pm on Saturday, October 24, was wearing dark trousers and a black hoodie.

“We will not tolerate anti-social behaviour of this kind and we are determined to bring offenders to justice,” PC Griggs said.

“I would encourage people in our communities to be our eyes and ears and report behaviour of this kind to us.”

Anyone who saw a man matching the description in and around Minehead on the night of the assault should contact PC Griggs on 0800-555111.
