THE grandson of Minehead car crash victim Jean Turner has paid tribute to the "loving" 89-year-old.

Marcus Capel, who is also head teacher at Timberscombe First School, said: "Jean was a loving, bright and interested lady.

"She will be remembered around Minehead for walking her little dog, Bracken all over the town, from the centre down to the golf course and round via Tescos.

"She was always interested in people she met and would ask about family and friends, offering help wherever possible."

Mrs Turner was a reat-seat passenger in a Renault Scenic which was in collision with a BMW at Bilbrook on Friday. She died later in hospital while the BMW driver, Vicky Gould, 39, died at the scene.

Marcus' parents, Janet and Mike, remain in hospital after suffering broken bones.

Marcus continued: "Her bright mind would soon have connected events and people and she would never forget birthdays or important milestones in people’s lives.

"She had a very sweet tooth, enjoying her sweets and the occasional strawberry milkshake, possibly as a result of her time as a confectioners clerk in Terry’s of York.

"She was an avid reader of the press, busy with her scissors, she would clip cuttings for friends and family of local news, and news from her home city of York.

"She was a great letter writer and enjoyed sharing her news with her many friends and family members.

"She is greatly missed by all her family, her son and daughter, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

"Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hedley Price.

"Her family would like to send their condolences to the other family involved in the crash, their thoughts are with them.

"They would also like to thank everyone who has helped. In particular the help and support of the people in the cars behind (Clare and James from Bristol) and Matt (a joiner) who kept talking to Jean and to Janet and Mike (her daughter and son-in-law) throughout; the emergency services for the very quick and efficient response and their sensitivity in dealing with the incident; everyone at the A&E at Musgrove, who were incredibly supportive, enabling Janet to spend some time with her mum before she died.

"Mike and Janet will be in hospital for a while, thankyou to friends and family for their continued help and support."
