A BUILDER with a fear of heights is plucking up the courage to do a parachute jump for a charity that is helping his nephew.

Martin Porter, who works for Jones Building Contractors, will undertake the jump from 10,000 feet at Dunkerswell Airfield on the Blackdown Hills on April 11 to raise funds for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Martin’s nephew, Nicky Giles, 30, of Woolavington, received a double lung transplant on Christmas Eve.

Martin, of Cotford St Luke, said: “He is responding well but Cystic Fibrosis is the most common life-threatening inherited disease and it has affected his other major organs.

“From work colleagues, friends and local companies, the response to the skydive has been fantastic. My employers have pledged money, as has my local Co-op store.

“The Chapel pub in Cotford are raffling a giant Easter egg and the landlords are giving the proceeds to the charity.

“The problem is, I don’t even like going up a ladder!”
