A REVIEW of Variety show Showtime, hosted by the Somerset Hills Chorus, at the Wellesley Theatre, Wellington.

THE audience were treated to the foot stomping rhythm of the Thunderbridge Bluegrass Boys as they sang and played their way into the hearts of fans new and old.

Sarah Cunningham and friends brought a jazzy element to the evening while showing off the vocal talents of 15-year-old Jasmine Homer and Mathew Atasoy, along with the exceptional keyboard playing by Christopher Magrath.

The evening was further enhanced when the street crew Elementz hit the stage where they threw themselves well and truly into their exciting and extremely entertaining street dance routine, the audience showed their appreciation by waving their arms in the air and whooping as each member of the crew gave it their all. The Somerset Hills chorus once again gave a spectacular performance as they displayed why they are the 2009 ‘Sweet Adeline’ UK Small Chorus Gold Medal Champions.

In stunning outfits and directed by Cynthia Tucker they sang in perfect harmony during the evening and closed the show with a beautiful rendition of ‘Peace on Earth’ which they dedicated to all our troops at home and abroad.

A collection was made in the foyer of the theatre where £153 was raised for forces charity ‘Help For Heroes’.

The chorus will also be donating a further £150 to this very worthwhile cause.

Somerset Hills Chorus will be competing at the Sage in Newcastle on May 8, where they will face strong competition from 10 other choruses in their category. We wish them every success in this endeavour.
