I AM currently researching some family history on my wife's side. Her mother was evacuated to the Winsford area during the Second World War, and it is about her mother's time there that I request information from County Gazette readers.
Her name was Elizabeth Anne Howarth, aged about eight at the time. She arrived in the area in around 1941 and stayed until about 1945.
One of the houses she lived in belonged to a cousin of the later 'Suez' era Prime Minister, Anthony Eden.
The house owner was a Miss Elenor Hinks and the address was The Cottage, High Town, Winsford.
She had a cook by the name of Maggy Rushton, who everybody loved by all accounts. There were also a lot of Canadians in the area at the time, so this might jog memories.
We have little information about this period in Elizabeth's early years, so any information, photos etc would be of great value.
We'll pay costs involved within reason.
I can be contacted via e-mail at aviationart@mail2rob.com or by way of 'snail mail' using my terrestrial address.
I will be making a visit to the area soon to do some footwork.
