THE Treetops five mile road race, round five of the 2005 Capio Duchy Hospital Cornwall Grand Prix Series, attracted a huge field to Cubert with over 340 runners lining up at the start.

The Men's race was dominated by the strong Cornwall Athletic Club squad, led by team captain, Dave Buzza. Buzza headed the field from the start, although reluctant to set too fast a pace into a strong head wind on the opening mile.

At the half way point, the former international marathon runner, was still controlling the race, with the Newquay Road Runner, John Scott, doggedly holding on in Buzza's slipstream. By the three mile point on the second lap, Scott began losing ground, as two more yellow and green Cornwall Athletic Club vests, worn by Ronnie James and Tony Dunn, came powering through.

With one mile to go, a Cornwall Athletic Club clean sweep, led by Buzza, looked inevitable, with the battle for second place being the only doubt. Waiting until the last 400 metres, the canny Dunn slipped past James, accelerating to the line, with the Penzance runner just five seconds behind in third spot.

Nathan Gosling (7th), Jason Pascoe (13th), having taken part in the Helston Triathlon just two days earlier and Adrian Ball (14th), completed a strong Cornwall Athletic Club team, finishing 47 points ahead of Newquay Road Runners, with Cornwall's 'B' team in third place.
