FALMOUTH Civic Soc-iety has agreed to donate £50 to the Clean Harbours operation set up last year by Dave Evans and Roger Green.

The society had heard 130 businesses and public bodies had been approached for financial support, but only four along with one person had made any financial contribution. Letters in support had been received from people and organisations.

One of the society's aims is to promote the preservation, development, improvement and beautification of features of general public amenity or historic interest in the town with particular reference to the maritime heritage and waterfront. Therefore, the society believed that the Clean Harbours operation should be supported and encouraged.

John Stanley, the society's secretary, said: "We would hope this contribution from a voluntary group with modest resources would encourage more businesses and other bodies to make further contributions.

"Our harbour, attracting large numbers of sailors, cruise ships and other visitors, is a jewel in Falmouth's crown, and the town should ensure that it always looks its best."
