THIS year's Falmouth Carnival will now go-ahead after the people behind Falmouth Week came up with a rescue package to save the popular community event.

Last week, the Falmouth and Penryn Lions Club announced that after 14 years of running the event, because of rising insurance costs, it would not be able to take it forward this year.

But, following a meeting of the town's shoreside committee last Wednesday, it was announced that its members were stepping in to secure the carnival's future.

The Port of Falmouth Sailing Association, Kernow Events, who will stage this year's entertainment at Event's Square during Falmouth Week, and Hayes Parsons Insurance, a regular supporter of Falmouth Week and Falmouth Classics, have agreed to underwrite the event.
