STUNNED motorists using the Southfields roundabout, near Ilminster, were greeted with an alarming sight during the Friday morning rush hour.

The eye-catching spectacle of upturned tyres and mangled metal caused last-minute swerving as rubberneckers strained for a closer view.

Road signs and street furniture were left damaged following the incident, and glass from the vehicle's windscreen showered the road surface.

The roundabout was blocked and traffic was affected until well into the afternoon.

The police and fire services said they had no information on the incident.
