CONSTRUCTION work has started on the site of the former County Garage on Priory Avenue, Taunton, on 22 new apartments and 2 coach houses.
The plot has been the subject of intense and careful investigation by teams of archaeologists over the past six month.
It was known that the site was part of the former mediaeval Priory of St Peter and St Paul, and an archaeological survey, funded by developers A&H Gadd, was one of the conditions included in the planning permission from Taunton Deane Council.
