POLICE are targeting bikers in spot checks on the A39 in West Somerset in a bid to curb deaths and injuries.

As sunshine and warm weather bring thousands of holidaymakers onto the roads, officers of the Road Policing Unit are stopping motorcyclists to press home road safety advice.

The spot checks come days after a man died in a motorcycle accident on the A39, a 'hot route' between Kilve and Holford, on Sunday.

A police spokesman said the checks had been launched as part of Operation Triumph, a major drive in a bid to save the lives of motorcyclists who use the winding A39 between Bridgwater and Williton, described as a 'motorcyclist's dream', to test their skills.
