Cornwall Raceways got their 2005 season off to a flying start at the weekend at their Trezemper track near Goonhilly.

In perfect spring sunshine over 75 competitors ensured that the large crowd of spectators were treated to fast and furious action with rollovers, hard hitting crashes and thrilling duels all afternoon.

The Small Banger class got things under way with 130 Darren Thomas winning the first heat just ahead of hard chasing 00 Ronnie Mathews, while 44 Jason Hatch took third.

The second heat saw Mathews perform a perfect rollover after being smashed into by 12 Andy Frankson. Despite this Ronnie went on to finish the race which was won by Darren Thomas again, with Hatch in second and Frankson finishing third. The third heat went to 248 Geoff Stick with Thomas in second and Hatch third.

The final was as usual a hard hitting no holds barred battle with numerous cars not making it to the chequered flag. Despite his earlier rollover, Ronnie Williams went on to grab the win ahead of 820 Rob Warmsby with Hatch in third.

The Junior Mini (non contact) class saw so many entries that for the first time they had to be separated into two lots, racing separate heats with the top ten highest scoring cars qualifying for the A final with the rest competing in the B final.

Heat wins went to 803 Stephan Frankson, 866 Graham Payne, (2), 850 Jarvis Watts, 800 Shawn Frankson, and 877 Josh Lovelock. The B final saw 836 Lee Lewis win just ahead of 888 Lewis Gilbert with 817 Andrew Neville in third spot.
