A MAJOR extension to the St Day tip has been officially opened by County Environmental Services, Cornwall's own waste management company.
It is hoped that the extension at the United Mines landfill site at St Day near Redruth will ease the pressure on the county's waste disposal facilities.
Despite Cornwall achieving a recycling rate of 25%, there is still a pressing need for landfill space while a more long-term solution is sought to dealing with the county's refuse.
