MACMILLAN Cancer Relief would like to thank people in Yeovil and the surrounding area for going that extra mile and making this year's Macmillan Miles Challenge even bigger and better than before.

In its 15th year of running the Macmillan Miles Challenge was a huge success.

In the Yeovil area some 13 events took place to help Macmillan Cancer Relief's Cash for Cancer Relief: Macmillan Women's Cancer Clinic Appeal which hopes to raise £395,000 for to provide a gynaecology clinic at Yeovil District Hospital and two nurse posts specialising in cancers of the prostate, bladder, kidneys, stomach and oesophagus at Musgrove Park Hospital in Yeovil.

The appeal was only launched last week and is being backed by the Yeovil Express and already Macmillan's Somerset fundraising manager Michele Evans is delighted at the response.

"I would like to thank everyone who took part in this year's Macmillan Miles Challenge," she said.

"It is because of the generous support of people in the local community that this event has been such a huge success.

"The enthusiasm, imagination and support from the community has been fantastic. They all deserve a pat on the back for going that extra mile or two to help local people living with cancer, their families and carers."
