Devoran is to receive a £73,000 grant from the Mineral Tramway Strategy for village improvements, a good result largely due to work by Devoran Village Forum and its action group, clerk Alan Truan told Feock parish council.
Now it was a question of deciding how the money would be spent, he said. Favourite suggestions were for a rural car park at the end of the tramway by the new A39, improvements to Devoran Quay, the provision of more signs and notice boards and a bus shelter. Also, while a new village school was being built, they had to consider what use should be put to the old school site.
The planning authority he said, had intimated part of the site could have a community use, which he described as "a once in a lifetime opportunity".
Encouraged by the work of the Devoran forum, councillors are now to try and set up a similar organisation in Carnon Downs.
A public meeting is to be arranged.
