BATHING water at Minehead will be checked next week at the start of a programme of rigorous quality tests carried out by the Environment Agency

Monitoring teams will collect 20 samples from the sea off the town's beach, which will be analysed for a range of bacteria including types that indicate the presence of sewage.

Swimmers and holidaymakers will be able to check the results on the Environment Agency's website www.environment-agency.gov.uk
