DOCTORS' surgeries in Wellington and Wiveliscombe are at breaking point due to changes introduced through the new GP contract.
The surgeries are struggling to keep up with the number of patients needing appointments after the new guidelines, which have been gradually introduced since April last year, called for funding to be linked to the quality of care given, rather than the number of patients on the doctor's register.
That means more frequent screenings and blood tests for patients, which takes up more doctor and nurse time.
