Wellington advocacy and advice charity Helping Hands needs to find £48,000 in the next six months - or close for good.

The group has suspended activities due to a funding crisis and staff illness, but is hoping to re-open as soon as more funds have been secured.

However, that has been proving a problem after Wellington Town Council reduced a grant request from the charity from £6,000 to just £1,500 over concerns that its services overlapped with others available in the town.
