HELSTON and District Rifle Club held a dinner at the Queens Arms, Breage at which presentations were made to the successful teams and individuals over the past 12 months.

A special presentation was made to the retiring secretary of the club, Mrs Susan Curnow, who after 25 years as secretary had decided to call it a day.

Sue had served the club well during these years, so much so she was awarded a NSRA Special Award for services to shooting. Sue joined the club back in 1976/7 and was quickly seized upon to act as secretary.

During her time as secretary Sue was the main driving force in ensuring the club obtained its new premises. This was at a time when lottery grants did not exist, but Sue managed to obtain grants sufficient to buy the land and build the range.

When the club experienced a shortfall in grants it was Sue's persistence that enabled the club to raise the extra money required.

Helston and District Rifle Club now shoots in a five-point firing range on its own land and that is a long way from a converted potting shed in Doc Michael's garden and has a lot to do with Mrs Susan Curnow.

Presentations of the average medals were made Terry Curnow and Jackie Hibbitt. They had the best averages for the club in both the County and Winter League competitions. Mark Rowe, Terry Curnow, George Orchard and Jackie Hibbitt were also presented with medals for reaching the second stage of the Eley competition.
