FALMOUTH Golf Club's ladies began their 2005 season with a first round match in the Mail on Sunday Golf Club Classic.
The team of Melanie Temple, Kathy Wells, Lynne Dickinson, Lena Holland, Val Trevithick and Liz Shone were on top form to win five matches to one at home against Newquay.
Results: Melanie Temple won 5 and 4; Kathy Wells won 6 and 4; Lynne Dickinson lost 5 and 4; Lena Holland won 6 and 5; Val Trevithick won 3 and 2; and Liz Shone won 6 and 4.
Although Falmouth boasts some of the most stunning views in the county when the wind blows like it did on Saturday, it is a very tough course. Around 57 golfers braved the howling wind to take part in the monthly medal competition. Nigel Molin was the eventual winner with an excellent nett 68.
Results: 1, Nigel Molin, 68; 2, Carl Templeton, 69; 3, Dave Holland 70; 4, Dickie Dickinson, 71.
