THE former head of Carn Brea Leisure Centre explained for the first time yesterday why she had resigned and made a blistering attack on the new management.

Mrs Geraldine Crew led the campaign to save the leisure centre from closure, but said she was unable to work with the new board of trustees. She said she was forced to resign.

In her opinion the trustees do not have any long-term survival plans for the centre. And, Mrs Crew added, the new board don't understand that there is no money available for funding old centres.

Mrs Crew, the former chairman of the trustees, who had been working on plans for a new state of the art leisure centre for Camborne, Pool and Redruth, under the banner of the Spyrys project, said: "They do not appear to have the vision or excitement needed to drive the new project forward.

"Decisions being made by the majority appear to be short-sighted and small minded. They are not throwing themselves into new ambitious plans which will deliver to the next generation."
