Yeovil Town hat-trick hero Phil Jevons said he was quick to claim the match ball following the 4-2 victory over Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

"Sometimes the referees don't realise and walk down the tunnel and you never see it again so I was happy to have got that afterwards and it will be something to look back on when I finish my career really," he said.

Jevons said he was pleased with his first goal which was an absolute corker which he volleyed into the roof of the net.

"Luckily enough it went it off the bar, but hat was nice because we didn't start well in the game and to go into half-time at 1-1 was a good feeling after we started off pretty badly," he said.

Jevons admitted that he had to keep his nerve to score his second from the penalty spot after there had been a lengthy delay following protests from the Rovers players.

"There have been a couple of them to be honest over the years," he said. "You have just got to keep your concentration in those situations. The wind was blowing the ball off the penalty spot, they were protesting and heard my name being shouted from behind. But all you have got to do is block it all out and concentrate when you are going to take it."

Jevons said he and his team-mates had remained professional in the build-up to the game despite Rovers claiming that Yeovil were a bunch of divers.

"We just wanted to keep a professional outlook on it by not really listening to the nonsense that was being talked," he said. "We were just getting on with the job really. We went about it at their place in a professional manner and tried to do the same again today and our quality on the pitch came through in the end.

"Anyone who comes and watches us every week knows that we are not (divers), and that's all we can say really."
