PEOPLE in St Keverne were left shocked this week after a man attempted to rob the village post office.

The man entered the post office at around 5.15pm on Monday as sub-postmistress Sue Knight was preparing to shut up shop for the day.

He verbally threatened her, but fled empty-handed when Mrs Knight managed to sound an alarm. A device taken into the post office by the man was later examined by bomb disposal experts but found to contain only small fireworks.

The offender is described as white, 5ft 8in tall and of small to medium build. He was wearing a black woolly hat, three-quarter length khaki jacket and dark trousers. Believed to be in his mid-40s to early 50s, he was unshaven, with a few days of grey and white beard growth. He had blue eyes and was wearing thick-rimmed dark glasses with dark frames.
