THE internationally renowned pianist Sandro Bartoli flew in to Cornwall last week from a concert tour of South America to give a recital in a local school.

Truro School is currently holding a piano festival to celebrate its new £50,000 Steinway concert grand piano, which has been part-funded by the school's parents' association, the Truro and Treliske School Society. The school's new director of music, Martin Palmer, invited Sandro Bartoli to play in the Burrell Theatre. The concert included an item in which Sandro Bartoli was accompanied by Sixth Form flautist Charlotte Osman, from Manaccan, and members of the school's string orchestra playing a movement from a Mozart concerto.

She said afterwards that it was prepared hurriedly as there was so little time for rehearsal with Sandro, but that "although it was scary, it was fun." The famous performer has a hectic international schedule and flew on to his next concert in Barbados the following day.
