TRURO'S Hall for Cornwall is slowly falling apart at the seams and £255,000 is desperately needed to prevent further physical deterioration of the historic building. The money is needed to repair leaks in the roof, damp in the Lemon Quayside, renew the electrical system and repair torn seats in the auditorium.
The management team has launched a Theatre Fund to raise the money in order to avoid a much more serious crisis in the future. The fundraising campaign includes applying for grants, launching a donations scheme and a change to box office procedures.
From April 1 the £1 credit/debit card fee will be abolished and replaced with a 50 pence per ticket Theatre Fund Payment, shifting the cost of the repair work onto the people who use the building.
HFC director Tim Brinkman says that the amount needed to keep up with the repair work was the "price of its success."
