A NEW factory has opened in Redruth to build affordable starter homes in the region.

The timber-framed houses come in kit form from Frame Homes and will cost as little as £90,000.

The company plan to supply four housing associations with homes on sites around the region.

Many of the houses will be sold on a part-ownership basis, with purchasers paying half the cost of the house.

David Renwick, chief executive of the Ocean Housing Group, said: ""There are very few, if any development sites of any size in West Country villages, but there are probably lots of small in-fill plots that could take a pair of semi-detached or a terrace of three houses.

"Using this type of design we could provide opportunities for local younger people to get a foot on the property ladder through shared ownership".
